ITC Infotech : Embarking on a new journey

First and foremost I would like to thank my colleague and friend Rahul for referring me to ITC Infotech. I already had an offer with another company which kind of a startup with less than 600 peoples working. ITC Infotech was quick to schedule an interview within last 3 days of my notice period with my previous employer Infosys.

It took me 2 rounds of technical interview and an HR round to get into ITC Infotech. First technical round was very easy to crack as the questions were based on core concepts. Second round was conducted by a more senior person and he covered almost every details which was tough as I had not worked on most of them. But eventually I got a call from HR, who sounded super delighted to deliver the news of me getting selected. I loved her energy.

Finally after settling down with salary negotiations I got a 100% hike which was great, I was given the role of Lead Consultant (IS3) and got tagged to one of the major projects in ITC Infotech. My joining date was 31st July 2019.

First two days went in introduction sessions where people from different departments briefed us on the different policies and introduced us to various portals of ITC Infotech.

When I told my parents that I got into ITC, they asked my the full name of the company which I told them its Indian Tobacco Company which made them raise their eyebrows. I had a feeling already that this would happen because my parents like most of others have their eyebrows raised if they hear their child is associated anything near Tobacco. They sometimes even did not mention the name of ITC when people asked them where their son is working now. I had to explain them the diversified presence of ITC across industries like cigarettes, FMCG, hotels, packaging, paperboards and agribusiness.

But first couple of weeks after introduction sessions were slow and no work was allocated, one of the reason being that my official laptop was not yet delivered to me. The very next day the laptop got delivered, it crashed with blue screen and I had to return it back to Pune DC to get the windows re-installed. Well this made wait for one more week, before it arrived back with new windows installed and I hope it does not crash again.

I worked along a team of 10 members who are always ready to help and have a good knowledge on the area. Though it was not easy to understand the new project as not much documentations were available, which I maintained in my previous organization. The work here was less but less coding involved and more time spent in understanding the requirement, clarifying the requirements and getting approval for merging the code. During my tenure with Infosys, I had managed three projects and lead a team of 10 people while coordinating with clients. The scope of work had reduced a lot which was down side for me.

The major problem faced by me here was the management cared very less about the employees and hardly worked on resolving the problems brought forward by the employees. I too was one who suffered on the same lines. In the project I had to get my code reviewed and the reviewing team was US based hence I had to wait for them till late night to wait for their reviews and approval. The real problem came when there was a rejection on the pushed code and ITC management wanted us to resolve the issue with code right when the reviewing team failed it. So basically I was stuck sometime late night at around 2-3 AM working on how to resolve the code and get it approved.

These reasons forced me to look out for a better opportunity and I started looking out for any good offer that came on my way. Accenture approached me with a joining bonus and marking an end to my ITC Infotech journey.
